I'm not being pushy! (I just care...)

When you think I'm being pushy about your estate matters, please just stop a minute and understand my intentions.

Last week I phoned an existing client. I asked him casually how his wife was only to be told that she'd had a bleed on her brain and had just a couple of short days to live. When I saw her six months ago, she was as fit as a fiddle and enjoying life as a new grandma. We filled out many of Dear Mary Letters and other forms that last day I saw her.

All the instructions about where she'd like to be buried, the music to be played and the flowers she would want on her coffin. She specified Arum Lilies. I remember her not really wanting to fill out all the forms I put it in front of her. However, I kept reminding her how it would make life easy for her husband and children if she could be specific about her requests. It would save her family, would save them another decision at a time of greatest grief when she might be gone. None of us had any idea that day what was ahead just six short months later.

This week as part of my guardian advantage role I promise our clients, I will have the information to make life easy for her family as they are mourning her loss. But as usual, that got me pondering. Why is it most people really keep putting off filling out these forms I provide to help their grieving loved ones at times like this? This experience will strengthen my resolve to get people filling out these documents as part of our process, a process to create real peace of mind for those left behind.

See things happen when we least expect, and that's why I keep following you up and life doesn't always just wait for us and wait for you to get yourself sorted. I've been caught before when people keep pushing me away. Don't want to talk with me. Don't want to take my calls. Then one day, it's too late.

So when you think I'm being pushy, just stop a minute and understand my intentions. I care about you and I care about your family and I never want to apologise for not having tried hard enough. So click the link below and make a time for us to chat about getting your stuff sorted. Show your family, you really care. Words are easy. Getting this done demonstrates your love.
